Some paths are carved by the thousands and thousands of feet which have trodden them. Others are built by order of the authorities, as part of a large-scale project connecting one place to another. And yet others are created by Nature herself. For instance, by the constant caress of a river, which has been winding its way through the mountains for thousands, or even millions of years.
Before you arrived, the Lea trail was a place of work: a path along which produce was transported from farmhouses to markets, along which wine was brought from La Rioja and fish taken back, along which the iron from the foundries was sent out into the world, along which wheat was taken for grinding into flour in the mills. Thousands of feet have walked from one end of the trail to the other in order to make life easier for those who lived along it.
