The Wine and Fish Trail crosses the Urdaibai Biosphere Reserve from Bizkaia towards Araba. It was used to trade wine and fish between the coast and the hinterland. Other products such as wheat, Biscayan iron and Castilian wool were also transported.
The Wine and Fish Trail has played a very important role in the history of the Basque Country. For many years it was not only a means of transporting these two foodstuffs, but also a channel for commercial distribution and social relations.
